I was organising my bookmarks recently and came across one for Inoreader. I couldn’t remember what it was at first, but it clicked when I visited the dashboard. That reveals how much/little I’ve been using it! I do follow several creators on Substack, and get their newsletters straight in my inbox; there are several other newsletters I receive from other sources. I can’t seem to find a way to aggregate these in Inoreader, but at least my inbox aggregates them for me!
Mac user here. I am giving Vienna-RSS a try. And because I use Obsidian (https://obsidian.md/) as my primary note-taking app, I am glacially trying out its web clipper (https://obsidian.md/clipper).
Per the activity direction –
AGGREGATOR – I set-up Vienna-RSS to try out.
I do not have any tips for use of an aggregator. For whatever reason, Inoreader (https://www.inoreader.com/) did not “stick” with me and likewise with Feedly (https://feedly.com/). I’ve paused a two clipping tools – Glasp (https://glasp.co/) and Raindrop (https://raindrop.io/). And in the way-back days, I used some combination of Diigo, Google Reader (R.I.P.), and I-can’t-remember-the-name-of web clipper. LOL.
WORKFLOWS I have that folks consider “friction” but they work for me –
USING MESSAGING APPS – I am part of topical group chats (e.g., environmental, comedy, aging parents, etc.) in messaging apps (e.g., Discord, Signal, Telegram, WhatsApp). I have dedicated folders where I “clip” web info to share with respective groups. I like the compartmentalization.
GMAIL FILTER & LABELS – I receive Substack newsletter subscriptions and am on other mailing lists (e.g., pet stores, banks, etc.) that are filtered and labeled. Meanwhile, I have found myself being more deliberate of what I consume and unsubscribing.
BROWSER FOLDERS with BOOKMARKS based on some topic – Not much more to say about these, other than I am not consistent accessing.
After typing out my MUCH-FRICTION workflows, to prep for trying out Vienna RSS, I have followed what Harold shared – “Add more sites of interest as we progress through this workshop.”
I have the Vienna window open upon logging into my computer, and it sits in nicely on my desktop. I’ve found myself being more selective about which Substack newsletter subscriptions I want to follow and why to follow.

SUBSCRIBING –
– Mastodon profile (https://mas.to/@ykhong.rss)
– Mastodon tag (https://mastodon.social/tags/pkmastery.rss)
– blog (https://jarche.com/feed/),
– news sites CNN (http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_us.rss) and Reuters (https://news.google.com/rss/search?q=site%3Areuters.com&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen). And I am slowly populating Vienna with select Substack newsletter subscriptions.

A few workflows are in the reply.

on trying out Vienna RSS

More later.
I just moved all my substack subscriptions to RSS to keep my inbox less populated.` I use RSS Guard and sync my divices with Nextcloud news.
Congrats on moving over substack subscriptions. I’m slowly doing so while also doing some welcomed unsubscribing.
